The weak link component in these devices is the storage which is prone to failure in a multitude of ways (on the Surface 3 non-pro, it will happily desolder itself due to overheating.
As it turns out, these devices are basically incapable of being disassembled without breaking them usually in an unrepairable manner.

This project is a backpack setup that allows you to boot the system off of an externally connected NVMe M.2 2230 drive which is faster than the onboard eMMC chip, more stable, and still allows for fully portable operation.
