My garage door is operated by a wireless keyfob remote (Merlin+ 2.0, Model E945M). So that I can remotely activate the garage door from my front door, I decided to integrate the keyfob into an existing light switch by the front door. Over time, I found the main keyfob button becoming less sensitive to the press. This happens as the button membrane resistive material wares. The new momentary contact switch in series with a 500 Ohms resistor wires directly to the keyfob PCB along, significantly improving the garage activation reliability. The existing light switch was dual gang. So the need was to integrate a momentary switch into a new light switch front panel with the same overall size, mounting holes and retain the existing light switching. The new design had to also incorporate behind the new switch panel the keyfob PCB, too. To make space for the new parts, the existing switches were re-orientated from horizontal to vertical alignment and shifted to the left. The PCB keyfob is powered by a CR2032 button battery. I retained the button battery power approach and designed the new switch panel with a removable sub-panel. The sub-panel includes the mounted keyfob PCB and the new momentary switch. This removable panel gives clear access to the battery for battery replacement purposes. The sub-panel is held in-place by one of the existing panel mount screws. The panel screw holes are masked by removable screw hole caps that press into place. Here is my 3D design. My design may match your needs, too. My print is made in PETG 1.75mm Aurarum white filament, with 0.2mm layer height and 100% infill on a PRUSA I3 MK3S printer. No print supports required. I hope you can find this design useful, too. Remember to leave me some feedback or even a tip to keep me enthused to make more of these drawings.
