I'm posting this today to celebrate Nacy Pelosi's arrival in the Republic of China, or Taiwan, despite intense pressure from China. This event can mean many good or bad things, it all depends on how the people and the world reacts.
Ever since the end of the Chinese Civil War in 1949, the Republican government has lived in exile on the island of Formosa and was the recognized government of China until the 70s. They have maintained a stable, democratic government since then and the mainland largely ignored them. However, as of recent Xi has proclaimed the rebellious state can be 'reunified by force if necessary.' Taiwan shines as a beacon of hope that even under an authoritarian regime people are willing to resist and maintain their freedoms. Taiwan's best hope to maintain its freedom is for the world to stop bowing down to the mainland's wishes.
