Note 1: You will need two of the "pin1.stl" because the knife needs two pins to hold the grips to the "tang." The grips are simply mirrors of each other.
Note 2: Files have been updated to be aligned correctly on a bed. You may still need to rotate bladewithtang.stl to fit on your print area, but I found printing it edge-up makes cleanup a lot easier.
I wanted to make a "realistic" tanto point-style knife* and try printing in PLA and then softening the blade with acetone to make it a safe trainer or prop for a costume. Currently printing and will report back once I've tried soaking in acetone to soften the blade.
Update 2/27/18: So I put the blade part in an acetone vapor bath at ~room temperature for 5 hours. The PLA temporarily softened to about a hardish rubber (like an eraser). However, byt the next day, most of the softness had disappeared. The acetone also did not melt the PLA like it would with ABS (which is good). The blade is also not brittle, though it does
