I remixed this to fit my needs and thought I'd finally share it after using this for about 2 years now. Works great and more accurate than a BLTouch or 3DTouch ABL probe. I did not make this design but improved it for my use. If you have these parts laying around and still want an ABL DIY style then this is it! I copied some of this from the original. I give full credit to the original designer.
You need:
1x Micro Servo (e.g. TowerPro SG90)
3mm rod from old PC CD/DVD drive (3mm outer diameter, Length about 35mm) for probing
1x Optical Endstop (standard reprap) for measuring
2x: M3x16 screws, nuts and washer to secure probe
2x self cutting screws(2x8) for mounting the servo against the base
2x M3 mounting screws to attach the probe to your hotend mount
For the metal rod/probe I used the inners of an old PC CD/DVD drive I had laying around. There is a 3mm rod inside that I used, I cut it to length. Before any gluing you need to make sure it all fit
