I really like those simple aluminium tent pegs (basically a simple rod with a tip on one end and a bent top to serve as a hook on the other). They are light, cheap, and they work well in most settings (except soft sand and snow). However, e.g. in tall grass they are really hard to find, so I tend to lose them on a pretty regular basis and the hook is actually way too big to hold a simple guy line. Losing one or two may not be a big problem in terms of money but when you are out on a hike and you need 8 pegs to set up your tent and you only have 6 left...
OK, so here is my take on stent stakes (based on a few 1000 miles of hiking experience). Basically you just print the top end and it goes on to a 5 or 6 mm (both versions included) aluminium rod from your hardware store next door or (which is what I did) you use some cheap aluminium pegs, cut off the hook, and replace the top (before inserting sand or roughen the top part with a file to get a better grip and add a few drops of glue)
