This is a quick model I made for an enemy in my Eberron campaign. It's a human-sized sphere with eight spidery legs and a mysterious dark porthole.
I left little holes for the legs and used wires.
For painting I recommend painting the interior all black and the porthole rim a light color to highlight the darkness inside.
