Here's what we'd like to think is an ancient relic: we actually found it at a local thrift store. It's our seventh scan on the MakerBot Digitizer. We're building the Digitizer to be an affordable, simple 3D scanning tool that fits on your desktop and works perfectly with our MakerBot Desktop 3D Printers.
This piece shows some more good progress, especially in one important feature: automatically closing the mesh. The Digitizer's software found the bottom of this ancient relic and created a closed flat surface so that the resulting model is watertight, or "manifold" in technical terms. This means this model came directly from the scanner with no cleanup, and now it's ready for 3D printing.
