This is a spool to wind toilet paper onto, and a detachable spindle that can fit in a power drill for winding.
This design came about when someone gave me an industrial sized roll of toilet paper. I cannot fit those huge rolls in my bathroom. What if I could wind the paper onto a normal sized roll? At first I thought about gluing my drill to a cardboard roll, but why not just 3D print the whole thing?
Captain Over Engineer to the rescue.
The roll is 10cm long, and 4cm in diameter. This seems pretty standard for domestic toilet rolls. I first tried a roll that was 1mm thick. That doesn't seem quite thick enough, so I ended up with 2mm.
The shaft that goes in the drill is 8mm in diameter, and hexagonal.
I have included the source file if you want to customise it a bit.
The spindle seems fairly strong, but I would suggest wining slowly. The tension of the paper will affect how well it winds, so maybe experiment a bit.
