I loved the top mold created by the winner of the filament purge contest, but wanted them to spin better. This replaces the bottom section of the mold. Just drop a .177 BB from a BB gun in and then press out a top like the original model. Any similarly sized metal ball should work, but I have only tested the crosman copperhead BBs that I had lying around. 3/16” ball bearing also work with this mold, and tend to work better than BBs. The BBs I had didn’t have a very even surface, which could be minimized by finding a smooth spot and making sure it’s on the bottom. I use a heat gun to melt the PLA scrap and then roughly shape it into a ball before putting it in the mold. One thing I did notice with this is that I needed to act a little quicker to keep the PLA as warm as possible. I also needed to press on the mold more. If done correctly, the BB should be locked in place and the top should work. With the BB, I've gotten tops to spin 3x-4x as long as the solid plastic ones.
