used 13/16 in spade drill to make hole https://www.homedepot.com/p/Bosch-Daredevil-13-16-in-x-6-in-Spade-Bit-DSB1010/203274555
then pressed in a 3/4in poly line Tee fitting (ABTT34) https://www.homedepot.com/p/3-4-in-Blue-Twister-Polypropylene-Insert-Tee-ABTT34/300823740 cut off at an angle on the tree side to increase water collection. The treads are nice and you can park the Tee end up to hold the bucket handle.
**Update 4/29/2020 Added 5 years of dates so you can tell when the tree was last tapped. prevents over tapping without giving the trees a few years of rest.
