This is a very simple two dimensional object that can be used for two-point discrimination (1,2,3,5,8,12,18,25mm separations) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two-point_discrimination. It can be laser cut out of old OHP transparencies or 3D printed. Dirty cheap and just about good enough to do a test of receptor density on different areas of skin (the separation is probably a bit too close for poorly discriminating areas). It might make a good tool for young school kids as the OHP, whilst being sharp, is unlikely to do much damage. More sophisticated devices are available, but for my purposes it works just fine.
It has been designed with Solvespace (a free piece of excellent software) and the tip separations can be adjusted in the program. I didn't think much about the drawing elements, but now looking at it, I think it could be simpler. Anyway, cut one out or print and have fun!
