The basic idea is that you need to win three (local) games in a row/column/diagonal on the (global) board, but the twist is that you can only play in the specific local board that corresponds to where your opponent played last. For example, if you play a piece in the upper left corner of any of the small boards, then your opponent MUST play somewhere in the upper left game board on the global board. Intense!
The small 'x' and 'o' pieces are the main tokens used to mark the local boards. The large 'x' and 'o' pieces are for marking a local board as completed.
