I have been working on this extruder cooler for my X3 and X3A printers for awhile now and it is now printing very well and working great!
I'm using a 30x30x10mm fan for the cool section and two 25x25x10mm fans for filament cooling. The design is very compact yet keeps the cool parts cool and lets the heat block get up to temperature fast.
Mounts in the same place as the stock fan and even uses the same screws.
The fans are all wired to the same wiring that powered the stock 40mm fan. Just make sure all red wires are together and all black wires too. The fans mount using 3mm sheet metal screws (#2 can be used too). As an option, you can wire the 25mm fans to the second fan connector on the Melzi controller board. They will not run during pre-heating but will come on during the print after the first couple of layers depending on how you have your slicer configured.
Designed to be printed in the upright position.
This cooler also has a easy to adjust inductive sensor mount.
