MATS, the original Mega Anti-Tangle Spool Holder, is widely considered to be an overengineered, unnecessarily complicated design. Some of its drawbacks include:
* High part count, many vitamins required
* Tendency for arms to collapse when no spool loaded
* Over time, spool weight and opposing forces cause the two sides of the base to bow outwards, contributing factor in creep under load when printed in PLA
* Spool rollers constructed in two parts with a flush fit across the center that places stress along layer lines
* Does not actually prevent tangles
* No cats
MATSEx aimed to solve a number of these issues, but ultimately magnified them by scaling the design up to fit a 3kg spool.
Taking some cues from other MATS remixes, VitaMATS now increases the number of vitamins by 66%! Two 608 bearings are now intended to be set in each pair of arms where they interface with the base left and right pieces. The lower brace part has been reworked as to have an M8 thread printed in;
