This is a holder/base for a XYZ 3D hand Scanner. It works as a holder when the 3D scanner is not in use but also allows for vertical scanning. It can be mounted to a tripod for vertical or horizontal scanning (must supply a 1/4-20 nut). There is a very slight friction fit which allows the scanner to be lifted out of the holder with a single hand but tight enough to hold the scanner in a horizontal position on a tripod.
If you will be mounting the holder to a tripod and are worried that the scanner can slip out, you can run the USB connector through the hole in bottom of the mount. This will help prevent the scanner from falling out. There is enough of a "lip" or skirt to allow a spring clamp to hold the scanner to a table or other surface.
I have found the XYZ Scan software works but it is less than optimal. If you download the Intel SDK runtime for RealSense cameras, you can use other--better--scanner software. I personally like ReconstructMe:
