Zoom M4 “No Mics” Mod

This is a low-profile replacement cap for the Zoom M4 designed to remove the built-in XY microphone module and cage, reducing bulk and making the recorder better suited for planted/drop rigs or harsher environments.

The stock microphone assembly adds height and fragility when you’re running external mics. This cap replaces that entire section with a clean, compact top that’s easier to pack, protects the internal connectors, and streamlines the recorder for bag-based or drop rig use.

The M4 is a genuinely amazing recorder, it packs much of what makes the F3 great, and then adds more on top of it in a slightly unconventional form factor. This mod doesn’t change that identity, but it does bring the physical usability a bit closer to that “small, rugged recorder” feel when you’re working with external microphones.
