Take 4 solid squares with unit side length and an height of 2/3. If you connect them at their horizontal or vertical faces you get 18 different pieces, which can be used to construct a lot of figures. Since the height of 3 squares is equal to the width of two squares square faces and rectangular faces can touch in the constructions.
