Emperor Charlemagne

King of the Franks between 768 and 814 AD, and Emperor of the Carolingian Empire from 800, charlemagne was a great unifier of western europe after the collapse of the Western Roman Empire. Charlemagne enacted a number of reforms in law, religion, millitary matters and governmental administration, and was the defender of the Papacy from 774.
