The shape of this object represents the variations in the cosmic microwave background radiation (CMBR) in all directions. And it's a latching hinged box... and it looks like a meatball.
Comedian George Carlin said, "You can't have everything. Where would you put it?" The CMBR is the limit of everything we know and everything that can be known. Where would you put everything? Inside the known universe, of course. It won't hold everything. But for small things, this meatball-like replica of the universe will do nicely.
The interior cones are not connected to the outer shell. These are designed to reduce the volume of support material needed. Printing into a raft is suggested.
