The coil shown is just an exploration into generating 3D printed inductive coils with OpenSCAD.

I am publishing this thing collection to illustrate concepts in creating 3D printed magnetics and coils. The effort is primarily intended for single-extruder printers because that is the most widely used type of printer (plus it's what I have).

The first concept involves the use of voids in an otherwise solid shape. If these voids are spiral in nature like a perfectly wound coil of wire then they can actually touch and still work as a lower performance coil. This principle is due to the fact that 3D printed coils have resistance higher than wires.

If we use copper in our perfect coil then any touch between the wires "shorts out" the coil because the wire has such high conductivity. 3D printed wires, however, have resistance so that the main channels of circular cross-section have lower resistance due to their width. However the "plus" shaped voids between them are insulat
