It is older than any human city, its walls built from unknown dark‑gray stones, seams thick with moss and creeping vines. There is no drawbridge, no gate—only a massive iron portcullis streaked with verdigris, and no one has ever seen it open. Each year on the night of harvest, people from a dozen villages at the foot of the mountain carry torches, bearing grain, cured meat, cloth, and coins. They climb the winding path in silence, place their offerings neatly upon the stone dais before the gate, then step back ten paces, kneel, and bow their heads.
