this is a drawing machine based on an arduino uno. it is similar to other designs available on thingiverse. i chose to design my own because most available machines do not hide away the electronics and the motors.
all in all i was surprised how easily such a plotter can be built. operating the plotter is also easy when using migrbl that can drive the servo on the z axis. i generate most gcode either with inkscape, carbide create or with my own python scripts (e.g. to generate cycloid drawings).
components used:
- 1x arduino uno
- 1x arduino cnc shield version 3
- 2x stepper drivers a4988 (soon to be replaced with silent tmc2209
- 2x nema 17 stepper motors
- 4x 8x500 mm carbon rods
- 8x 8x12x15 mm brass bushings
- 2x 20 teeth, 5 mm hole pulleys
- 5x 20 teeth, 5 mm hole pulleys with ball bearings
- 1x timing belt gt2, 6 mm wide, around 2.5 m long
- various 3 mm hex bolts
i bought almost all component online in china.
