FormBolt

The Formbolt is a sample bolt and nut designed to demonstrate the professional surface finish and intricate detail possible with the Form 1 stereolithography 3D printer. When designing a bolt for high definition printing, it's worth noting that alternative thread geometry can be explored. In this case, it was discovered that an extruded arc profile provided much smoother thread engagement. This type of experimentation would require expensive, customized tooling with traditional machining techniques, making the Formbolt a unique little artifact!
