Here you can read out your gas meter "kromschröder gaszähler bk-g4" with an ESP32-Cam incl. USB2Serial.
I use the software "https://github.com/jomjol/AI-on-the-edge-device" from jomjol on the ESP32-Cam.

This 3D print fits mm exactly on the gas meter and holds with magnets. It can be easily removed from the gas meter for maintenance and then put back on again.
you also need: 8 round magnets 10x4mm and glue to stick the parts together.
