Gel Loading Practice Tool

This is an alignment tool designed to help students learn how to properly pipette samples into gel wells for SDS-PAGE and other gel analysis applications. The tool is designed to fit onto a 53mm diameter cell culture plate, and holds up to 4 rows of gel combs.

This design was made to streamline the process of setting up the practice gels. The tool keeps the gel combs in line and makes the removal process easier with less chance of ruining the wells. Prior to this tool, the lab was using tape to hold the combs in place and often had non-straight wells as a result.

Gel combs were designed based off some that came with an SDS-PAGE system. Either the included six and seven tooth combs can be printed for use, or other combs (thickness: 1mm) can be cut to fit into the slots.
