GORGON

One of the stories describing the origins of the gorgon Medusa, tells the story of a young girl whom Poseidon falls in love with and rapes in a temple of Athena.
The goddess, very attached to purity and virginity, decides to punish the young girl for this sacrilege by transforming her into a gorgon.

I am aware that this is a contemporary reading of this story, but, for me, this story illustrates the social and cultural injustice imposed on victims, especially women.

L'un des récits décrivant les origines de la gorgone Méduse, raconte l'histoire d'une jeune fille dont Poséidon s'éprend et viole dans un temple d'Athéna.
La déesse, très attachée a la pureté et à la virginité décide de punir la jeune fille pour ce sacrilège en la métamorphosant en gorgone.

Je suis conscient qu'il s'agit d'une lecture contemporaine de cette histoire, mais, pour moi, ce récit illustre l'injustice sociale et culturelle imposée aux victimes, en particulier aux femmes.
