An upgrade of the original Sea Harrier FRS.1, the FRS Mk2 was introduced in the early 1990s and served primarily with the Royal Navy. The aircraft is known for its unique vertical/short takeoff and landing (V/STOL) capability, allowing it to operate from small aircraft carriers and forward operating bases. The FRS Mk2 was equipped with improved avionics, a more powerful radar, and the ability to carry advanced air-to-air missiles like the AIM-120 AMRAAM. These enhancements made it a more capable interceptor and air defense platform. It played a significant role in air operations during its service life, particularly in the post-Falklands War era, before being retired in 2006.
