My locking system is based on traditional "twistlocks“. It connects the twistlocks on top of each other with a vertical spring-loaded rail. In its normal position, the rail is not pushed and the twistlocks are locked. When the spreader comes down to carry a container, it pushes down the rail of the box it wants to carry (which in turn pushes down the rails of the containers under) and all the twistlocks of the stacked containers get unlocked. When the spreader takes away the container at the top, the rail of the carried box is no longer connected to the rails of the boxes under, so their springs push them back to their normal position, which causes the twistlocks of the bottom containers to lock automatically. So there is no human interference needed. The complete locking system is very compact and can be installed on nearly all traditional containers quickly. Most of the parts used in my system are made of standard profiles and components. The design is very robust but still light.
