Magical Vortex Screw Illusion. Amazing looking and great to show off as a conversation starter, the magic vortex illusion is sure to please anyone who prints it. Simply grip the disc at the bottom and drag it upwards, and it looks like the magic screw in the middle is disappearing into a portal at the top of the screw and re-appearing from the bottom. If you use multicolour silk filament like I did, it looks like it's magically changing colour too. I still have people begging me to explain how it works to them ;) I had some trouble printing this one, mainly due to bad luck (running out of filament and causing a weak spot in the structure), but the final profile has been optimised to print beautfully. The screw part failed for me many times, but I strategically painted on some supports and optimised them to come off very clean, resulting in a perfect vertically printed screw using Anycubic tri-Colour Silk. The original design for this came from osuushi on Thingiverse, so all credit to them. The original assembly instructions are below: You'll need two skateboard bearings; one for the top, one for the base. They should press in easily. Other than the bearings, the CAD file has everything arranged in its final position. Most of the assembly isn't particularly order dependent, but these steps should work: Snap the bearings into the top and the base Push the inner bearing insert (the short dowel with a rim on it) into the base bearing. The long side goes into the bearing. Screw the nut onto the screw. You may need to work it back and forth a bit to get it on, depending on print defects. Be careful on this step not to break the screw (reprint the nut with -0.1 mm XY compensation if it's not working out) Screw the end cap onto the end of the screw. (Again, XY compensation if it won't go on) Push the screw assembly down onto the coupling dowel in the base bearing Carefully line up the top so that the sockets line up with the poles, and the bearing lines up with the end cap.
