I wanted some modular storage to hold large sockets and hex bits in an area of my small tool-chest so came up with this system, based on a 45x45mm grid pattern.

General Notes
To help prevent the pieces lifting when removing the bits, There are small features on the bottom of the parts to insert neodymium magnets if you wish. I found that once assembled in my pattern, this was not required and the bits should slip on and off the holders with little little/ no resistance.

Printing
Printed with supports, but would probably work without, not a lot of time saved so I went with.

Assembly
Pop off the supports if you printed these, push a connector into one piece and then press the second into place.
I used a label maker to print the sizes -- depending on your machine, I found printing two lines of text in normal size and then cutting the label in half was an effective way of churning out the labels for the socket holders. For the hex bits, I printed in small font and spaced the l

Frequently Asked Questions
Which 3D printer is suitable for Modular socket and bit storage?
Any FDM printer should handle Modular socket and bit storage just fine. It's been printed on machines like Bambu Lab A1 Mini, Prusa Mini+, Creality Ender 3, most FDM printers. A minimum build volume of 45 mm is recommended.
Does Modular socket and bit storage need supports when printing?
Nope — Modular socket and bit storage is print-in-place, so it comes off the bed ready to use. No supports, no assembly.
What file format is Modular socket and bit storage available in?
Modular socket and bit storage is available in STL format. These files can be opened and sliced using free software such as Cura, PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio, or OrcaSlicer for FDM printing, or ChiTuBox and Lychee Slicer for resin printing. The download is provided through Thingiverse.
Is Modular socket and bit storage free to download?
Yes, Modular socket and bit storage is available as a free download through Thingiverse. Always check the license on the original platform to understand commercial use, remixing, and attribution requirements.
