I wanted something to experiment with transparent printing, so here's the "thing" I made for that.
It's meant to be easy and fast to print:
- 0.3 layer does fine
- No supports needed, unless you want to make the hollow version of the base.
The prism halves were printed from transparent PLA using this print override:
- spiral vase print
- 0 solid bottom layers
I have airbrushed insides of the prisms with UV colors and glued them together. Any transparent color such as ink will look good, but UVs have this slight glow effect even in daylight. Afterglow colors may be another choice, but in my experience, they behave poorly.
If you want pure transparency, I suggest IPA polished PVB, but the diffusing effect of layers is quite nice.
In case you don't want to paint the prisms, you can use any semi-transparent filament with the same print setup, or even use the full prism STL and print solid one.
Also there's a hollow version of base and an alternate hollow versio
