Simple Ring

I had a wonderful opportunity to show my son's 2nd grade class about additive manufacturing and 3D printing. I was invited to show the class my 3D printer during a week the kids were learning about inventing and product development. I used my wedding ring as an example of an item that could be improved and made into something that looked different or suited a different need. I told the class that I always wanted a thinner, less bulky version of my wedding ring, but before I go to a jeweler, it would be nice to make an inexpensive version and prototype it before I pay to have it made. I designed the ring right before their eyes in 3D CAD, then sliced it and printed. It was wonderul to see the kids' reaction and hear all of their inquisitive questions about the process. Great fun was had on my part!
