This is a simple robot arm designed to be manufactured quickly using 1/8th inch material and a laser cutter and 3D printer. The gripper is something developed by iRobot, and consists of a flexible bag of a powder that is deformed to the shape of what ever is being gripped and then vacuum is applied and the powder holds it's shape.
