This project started around a VuPoint Slide Scanner that was no longer compatible. I tore the guts out of the device save for the USB cord and backlight, and replaced it with a RPi0 and V2.0 camera. The software RPi Cam Control made it very easy to make a scanner easily accessible via a web browser.
I decided to make a case for a 2nd unit using the same design, adding a way to include a backlight and replicating an indicator light and button of the VuPoint. I made sure the design used the same slide and negative tray size (so that the slide and negative trays here will also work with a VuPoint that uses a 65mm tray).
Hardware BOM:
RaspberryPi ZeroW
Momentary Contact Switch (7mm diameter mount)
LED (5mm)
x2 Segments of 5mm 12v strip LEDs
3-5VDC to 12VDC Step Up Converter
6cmx6cm diffusion fabric
Design goal: keep the base less than 100mm.
