Study in TIME: Present and Future AgedThis “Study in TIME” series began as a personal challenge to explore surface texture on chess pieces.Creating convincing age and erosion proved far more difficult than expected. No matter how much I altered the images before sending them to the MakerWorld AI generator for STL or 3MF files, the system consistently interpreted the surfaces as smooth. The only reliable solution was to model cracks, pits, and weathered details directly in the software—an extremely slow and careful process. I have not abandoned the effort. I am simply regrouping and planning the next attempt. Below you will see the pieces shown as “Present” beside their “Future Aged” counterparts. Feel free to experiment with them and have some fun.
