This thing is a tree concept originally designed for OSM. The 3d parameters can be defined for any given natural=tree on the map.
The tree crown is comprised of ellipses centered about the vertical axis. Each vertical layer is represented by a row and is sampled into a regular n-gon, where n is given by the number of columns in the row. The data values represent offsets from the reference ellipsoid for giving the tree an irregular shape.
The idea is to start with a regular crown shape and add irregularities as needed.
You can edit it in OpenSCAD by changing the values of the crown.
