[Structure Synth](http://structuresynth.sourceforge.net/) is an amazing opensource program which makes creating recursive 3d shapes very easy. It does not, unfortunately, have a big selection of shapes. Essentially just spheres & rectangles. It also does not have subtraction or intersection options.
This is a recursive tree which would have required a somewhat more complex program in OpenSCAD.
