Universal Coupling

Universal coupling is also known as a universal joint or U-joint, is a mechanical device that connects two shafts at an angle to transmit rotary motion. It allows for angular misalignment between the shafts, making it ideal for applications like automotive drive shafts and industrial machinery. It consist of a pair of hinges located close together, oriented at 90 degrees to each other. They are commonly used where continuous rotation is required between non-collinear shafts. Though efficient, they can introduce vibration and require lubrication and maintenance for long-term reliability.
