Introducing "Wonky Bars"! These oblique prisms are stable on one base but not the other. Put two copies together to make a doubly stable prism with a centrally symmetric base!
Enjoy responsibly.
-MAT 304 (2023) (Fallon S, Madison B, Maddy N, Tommy C, Paige L, Kelly P, Kathy D, & DrJ)
Desciptions of each base:
1) The Octagon Wonky is half of an octagon with alternating side lengths of 4 and 2*sqrt(2). The shape was inspired by https://www.desmos.com/calculator/yyeforored.
2) The Star Wonky is made from an "astroid shape" (hypocycloid) given by y = (10^(2/3)-x^(2/3))^(3/2).
3) The Tooth Wonky is given by the function y = 2x^2+3x^4+1, with x ranging from -1 to 1.
4) The Step-function Wonky was produced using a random "step function" generated by ChatGPT3.5.
---------------
Printing Recommendations:
Scale up as needed -- the shapes in the pictures range from 20 mm to 30 mm.
Enjoy responsibly.
